The Harris Economic Policies Are Exactly What We Need
Over the past decade, I have closely studied the myriad problems that plague America. The economic policies proposed by Kamala Harris offer comprehensive solutions that address nearly every one of these issues.
At the heart of our nation’s challenges lies the staggering level of poverty and economic inequality — consequences of free-market policies that have been championed by both Democratic and Republican policymakers over the past 40 years. These policies have led to the hollowing out of the middle class and the impoverishment of millions of Americans. Today, the United States has one of the highest levels of child poverty among economically developed countries and the highest level of economic inequality. Additionally, we suffer from the most expensive healthcare system, yet our rates of premature death are higher than those of our peers.
The policies Harris proposes will begin to reverse these trends, significantly reducing poverty and its associated consequences: child abuse and neglect, academic failure, substance use, drug overdoses, and mental illness. Moreover, her policies will help narrow the disparities in health and premature death that afflict our society.
Programs like the Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit have already demonstrated their effectiveness in reducing child abuse and neglect — factors that contribute to nearly every psychological and behavioral issue children face. Harris’s commitment to expanding these programs is a step in the right direction.
In addition, Harris plans to invest heavily in increasing housing stock, a critical move that will reduce homelessness — a significant contributor to psychological and behavioral problems in children, as well as to child abuse, neglect, and academic failure.
Furthermore, it appears that Harris will continue the Biden administration’s efforts to curb the power of corporate monopolies that not only gouge consumers but also suppress wages, stifle unions, and perpetuate economic inequality. Her policies aim to restore the middle class by ending monopolistic practices and reducing poverty.
In a recent address in North Carolina, Harris laid out her compelling vision for rebuilding the middle class, a sharp contrast to Donald Trump’s remarks on the economy, where he said:
“This is talking about a thing called the economy. I wanted to do a speech about the economy. A lot of people are very devastated by what’s happened with inflation and all the other things. So we are doing this as an intellectual speech. We are all intellectuals today. Today we are doing it. And we are doing it right now. And it’s very important. They say it is the most important subject. I think crime is right there. I think the border is right there, personally. We have a lot of important subjects. They say it is the most important subject. I am not sure it is. Inflation is the most important. But that’s part of the economy.”
Which candidate do you believe will genuinely improve the well-being of Americans?
