A Million Love Letters to Joe Biden

One of the most heartfelt reactions to Joe Biden’s catastrophic debate performance came from Thomas Friedman. He said that he wept in watching President Biden's performance, having been a long-time friend and admirer of the President. Yet he called on the President to withdraw from the race because there is no credible way the President Biden can win, and the threat of a Trump presidency is too great.

Friedman went on to point out that if President Biden, his family and aides insist on continuing his candidacy, he will go from being remembered as the best one term president we have ever had to being the cause of a the Trump dictatorship, which he and millions of others want to prevent.

But the reporting thus far indicates that the campaign is circling the wagons.

Criticism, anger, and threats, will understandably not work. We need a huge and highly visible sign of how much admirers of the President wish him to step aside.

So, let’s get a million hard copy cards and letters (not emails, or social media posts) to the President telling him how much we admire and appreciate what he has done, but asking him to withdraw for the good of the country.

A million letters to the White House, will be a strong and visible sign that Millions of Americans who like and appreciate President Biden want him to withdraw from the race.

Here is mine:

President Joseph R. Biden

1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW,

Washington, DC 20500

Dear President Biden,

For many years I have been an admirer of you. I too grew up in Scranton, Pennsylvania at about the same time that you did. (I just turned 80 this month.) Your defeat of Trump in 2020 saved the nation from what would have been another four years of disaster. And what you have accomplished in beginning to rebuild the middle class, addressing climate change, and defending the Ukraine will surely be seen as historic accomplishments that will class you as one of our best Presidents.

Yet as an 80 year old, I am acutely aware of the challenges to people our age. And I have become convinced that continuing your campaign is more likely to result in a Trump presidency than would your enabling one of the many strong Democrats to run in your place.

Withdrawing will certainly be difficult and my heart goes out to you and your family.

I will certainly vote for you if you continue in the race.

But I hope that you decide to do what is best for the country and see to it that Trump never again is in the White House.

With much love and admiration,

Anthony Biglan

The best way you can help the Democratic Party is by contributing to an avalanche of letters that convince President Biden that he can once again keep Trump out of the White House, but this time, by stepping aside.
